The Heartland Centers for Public Health and Community Capacity Development at Saint Louis University presents a recording of our Health Disparities Webinar Series. Between January and May 2023, eight virtual webinars will help public health workers navigate concerns exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics will include changes in Missouri regulations, food insecurity, vaccine hesitancy, outreach to hard-to-reach populations, menstrual hygiene, and others. Our first webinar, COVID-19, Substance Use, Magnification of Inequities, and Innovative Responses to Promote Individual and Community Thriving was recorded on Tuesday January 17th at 12pm. Fred Rottnek, MD, MAHCM discussed how COVID-19 and the opioid overdose epidemic exacerbated existing systemic disparities in health and actions and innovations taken by healthcare providers and community organizations.

Speaker: Fred Rottnek, MD, MAHCM is a Professor and the Director of Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and the Program Director of the Saint Louis University Addiction Medicine Fellowship. His clinical practices currently include addiction medicine and correctional healthcare. He teaches in the School of Medicine, the Physician Assistant Program, the Center for Interprofessional Education and Research, and the School of Law. Board-Certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, he is the Medical Director for the Assisted Recovery Centers of American (ARCA) and Juvenile Detention in Family Court for the City of St. Louis.
